Admission Policy

Since Schiller International University operates on a rolling admissions system, it is possible to advise applicants of their acceptance or rejection soon after receipt of all application materials (including transcripts). Within 3 weeks of this notification, accepted students are expected to send in a 500€ or equivalent in USD ($) non-refundable tuition deposit, which will be credited against fees due.
Although there is no application deadline, most visa and foreign exchange authorities require long, complicated formalities. Therefore we strongly advise applicants who require visas to apply at least 2 months before the beginning of the semester for which they wish to enroll.

Terms of enrollment
Students must enrol for at least one term of study and may begin their studies in September (Fall Semester) and January (Spring Semester) for semester classes and in May for the first summer session or June for the second summer session. (See academic calendar).

Undergraduate Requirements

Schiller International University receives applications from almost every country in the world, representing a great variety of educational systems.

Prospective undergraduate students must have successfully completed 12 years of formal education.

- Students with less than 12 years of school may apply for one of the Schiller's special programs.
- Students with insufficient or no knowledge of English should apply initially to attend one of the Schiller English Language Institutes, especially those in London, Dunedin/Florida or Leysin. Students with a good basic knowledge of English can take intermediate and advanced English as a Foreign Language, but would then need longer to finish their degree studies.

Before registration, all new students whose native language is not English are required to take the English Language Placement Test.
On the basis of this test students will be placed in the appropriate English language class or their Foreign Language requirement will be waived altogether. Students who are placed in Advanced English will be awarded 4 to 8 credits and those who are exempted from further English language instruction will receive 12 to 16 credits. These students must, however, complete EN 111-112, which are required to all students.
All qualified students will receive University credits for their English language courses taken at SIU.

Undergraduate students who have a TOEFL score received during the last 2 years, of at least 500 (or 173 for the computerized TOEFL test) can be accepted into University studies without further EFL requirements. However, to receive EFL credits, these students must take the SIU English Placement Exam prior to their first registration at SIU as described above. Please also note that students must have had their official TOEFL scores sent directly to SIU's U.S. Admissions Office from the Educational Testing Service prior to registration.
Unofficial or student copies are not acceptable. SIU's TOEFL I.D. number is 0835.

Note: native English speakers must choose French to fulfil the foreign language requirement.

Students who have completed only 10 or 11 years of formal education may apply to the university preparatory program. Upon its successful completion, students will be admitted to the first-year class of the university.

Applicants who have worked full-time should submit curriculum vitae (résumé) containing name and address of their employers, dates of employment, job title, and a short description of duties.

Summer Session Admission

Applicants for the summer session must have completed 12 years of formal education, have 5 GCE O-levels at Grade C or above, or be students in good standing at another college or university.

Graduate Requirements

Non-native English speakers must pass the SIU English Placement Test to enter the graduate program or provide scores of at least 550 (or 213 for the computerized TOEFL test) on a TOEFL test taken within the previous 2 years. Students must have their official TOEFL scores sent directly to SIU's U.S. Admissions Office prior to their first registration at SIU. Unofficial or student copies of TOEFL scores cannot be accepted.
SIU's TOEFL I.D. number is 0835.

Advanced level English instruction (Eng 131-132) may be taken concurrently with graduate courses. Total credit hours, however, may not exceed 16. Therefore, students required to take English language courses may need more than the minimum number of terms to complete their program. Enrollment in the prescribed English classes is required upon registration for the first and all subsequent terms at Schiller and cannot be postponed.

Students applying for an MBA program are required to submit a score from the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT). The score must be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service to SIU's U.S. Admissions Office. Unofficial or student copies of GMAT results cannot be accepted. SIU's GMAT I.D. number is Z9B-LF 96.
This score will be one of the factors considered in an admissions decision. The GMAT is given by the Educational Testing Service four times a year at centers throughout the world. For further details, applicants should write to: The Graduate Management Admissions Test, Educational Testing Service, Princeton, New Jersey 08540, USA TEL (609) 771-7330. MBA students may submit their GMAT scores during their first term at SIU.
MA students are not required to take a GMAT test.
Applicants who have worked full-time should submit curriculum vitae (résumé) containing name and address of their employers, dates of employment, job title, and a short description of duties.

Summer session admission
Applicants for summer graduate study must be qualified graduate students majoring in the subject of the program for which they are applying. Applications are also accepted from students with a bachelor's degree who wish to attend graduate courses without becoming candidates for a master's degree.

Transfer of credits

For undergraduate students

Students may transfer to any campus of Schiller International University in any semester of their undergraduate studies. All transfer students who intend to receive a degree from Schiller International University must complete the last 2 semesters (at least the last 33 credits, not including credits from the English placement exam) at SIU.
Some transfer students, particularly those in their third and fourth years, may find it necessary to take additional courses in order to fulfill degree requirements.

Credit is granted for undergraduate work completed with a grade C or above. The total number of transfer credits from other colleges and universities is listed on the student's permanent record.
However, only grades of courses taken at Schiller are used to compute the grade point average (GPA):
Credit and/or advanced placement may be awarded to students who receive appropriate scores on ACT Proficiency Examinations (PEP), CLEP subject Examinations, USAFI and DANTES College Level Examinations, as well as on the College Board Advanced Placement Exams, providing they are applicable to the student's degree program.

For graduate students

Up to 6 semester credits toward a MA in International Relations and Diplomacy and up to 9 semester credits toward a MBA in International Business may be accepted for transfer to Schiller International University, if the graduate course has been completed with a grade of B or above and is applicable to the Master's degree program in which the student is enrolled.
In transferring from one Schiller graduate program to another, the student may transfer up to one-third of the credits previously earned to the second program if they are applicable to the specific course requirements. Up to 15 credits toward a 45-credit degree, and 12 credits toward a 36-credit degree may be granted in internal transfer from one SIU graduate program to another.

All Transfer students

Transfer students who intend to become candidates for a Schiller degree will have their credits evaluated in time for registration provided all admissions procedures have been completed at least 6 weeks before the registration date. Please note that all documents, such as transcripts, copies of diplomas and certificates etc., must have been received by the admissions office before credits can be evaluated.
Transfer of credits from Schiller is determined by the established policy of the college or university at which the student is taking his/her degree. Upon written request, Schiller will mail a transcript of the student's work to his/her college or university.

Intercampus Transfer

Intercampus transfer is encouraged to all the students within their studies at Schiller.
Students wishing to transfer to another campus must complete an intercampus transfer form by the middle of the preceding term. Transfers are normally approved if the student is in good academic standing, has no outstanding fees and if space is available at the desired campus.
