Study Abroad and Summer Programs

 Country-Focused Summer Programs in Paris:

During the summer term, SIU Paris invites students from around the world to participate in a country-focused program in Paris. At SIU Paris, students take both a social science-based course that examines the contemporary politics and social problems of France and a humanities-based course that focuses on significant aspects of France’s cultural history with the goal of providing a basis to understand the development of contemporary social values in the country. Special certificates are offered to students who successfully complete this program.

Students are also encouraged to combine these courses with French instruction (beginner and intermediate levels)

Please check out the courses offered, calendars and tuition fees for the summer terms.

The New Europe Term Abroad Program:

The twenty-five nations of the European Union have been engaged in the difficult process of trying to forge a more unified market, a coordination of their monetary systems, and a greater degree of political unity. They have also been striving to forge new economic/business and political linkages with other countries.

SIU’s special New Europe Term Abroad Program in Paris aims to prepare students for the opportunities and challenges arising from these developments. This program will focus on several seminars taught by European business specialists qualified to give students the economics and other in-sights necessary to take full advantage of these exciting new European prospects.

Additionally introductory courses in international business provide the basis for advanced studies in such fields as European banking, international marketing, the European Union, international business policy, and other relevant subjects.

French instruction in all levels can also be offered.

Students will select 5-6 courses during the Spring and Fall terms and 3 courses during the Summer term. Please check out the courses offered, calendars and tuition fees for the semester or term of your choice.

MBA ONLINE Distance Learning

Distance Learning is a natural extension of Schiller's capability of offering and delivering quality education to students from all over the world. This program has been developed in response to the needs of the adult learner in the 'information age'. The creative use of modern educational technology makes selected SIU programs available, any time, anywhere, through the World Wide Web.

Therefore, SIU's MBA program with a concentration in International Business is also offered in a distance learning format. Students may combine on-line courses with a residential program to complete degree requirements, or they may elect to take the complete program on-line.

In SIU's Distance Learning Program, traditional course work, textbook requirements, homework assignments and grading remain the same; only the method of delivery changes.

Courses are web-based, and available to any student who has access to the Internet. Each course utilizes a textbook, a study guide, and the web-based course materials, which also provide the medium of interaction.

The course web site contains:

· A home page with the most essential information about the course,
· Email links to both the instructor and to other students taking the course,
· A bulletin board which allows instructor and students to communicate with the group as a whole,
· Web link,
· Glossaries,
· Chat rooms, which enable students to discuss issues in real time with faculty and fellow class members.

The university has developed a number of methods to assist students in distance learning programs. Each student receives a copy of SIU's publication, A Guide to Distance Learning. Specially trained faculty mentors are always available by email for consultation, and the web-based host that we have chosen for our courses, WebCT, offers technical assistance 24 hours per day

Admission requirements for all Distance Learning students are the same as those for traditional students. However, students are required to feel comfortable with computers and Internet.
Students interested in distance learning programs should request a special brochure and course listing from the Paris campus or contact the Florida headquarters (distancelearning@schiller.edu).
